Background

The International Sports Coalition (ISC) Facilitation Team recognized in December 1998, that the initial pioneering phase in sport should be followed by a second phase, which makes use of previously acquired knowledge and further develops sport ethics, sport management and sport methods. To this end the International Sports Leadership School (ISLS) was formed in 1999 to train a worldwide-web-of-new-generation leadership in a thirteen-week residential course in South Africa. Now the training opportunities are extended to national and regional levels.

Training Levels

There are three levels of training:

  • Level 1 is the local or national training that is available for everyone wanting to be involved in sport ministry.

  • Level 2 is the regional training that is designed for those who would want to specialize in one or other field in sport ministry within a specific region.

  • Level 3 is the advanced training in South Africa and  for selected leaders that show leadership prominence.

From 1999 to 2005 195 leaders from 82 countries have completed  the Level 3 training in South Africa.
During 2004 Level 1 trainings were held in Chennai (India) and Moscow (USSR).
In 2005  Level 2 training was held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
In May 2005 40 key leaders from 32 countries were trained in Orlando (USA) to conduct national and mini-regional training.
